Vladimir Putin is trying to prepare Russians for the use of nuclear weapons by means of propaganda on state television, independent observers have warned.
- For the last two weeks we have been hearing on our television that nuclear silos should be opened - said Dmitry Muratov, editor-in-chief of the independent daily Novaya Gazeta. "We also hear that this terrible weapon should be used if the supplies of weapons to Ukraine continue," - he added.
Muratov considers Putin's "absolute and unlimited" power to be the most terrifying phenomenon in Russia: "If Putin decides to use nuclear weapons, no one will be able to stop him (...) neither parliament, nor civil society, nor public opinion," he said.
