Court of Appeals in Warsaw changed the decision regarding priest Michał Olszewski and two former officials of the Ministry of Justice. The priest was released from custody after the bail bond of PLN 350,000 was paid.
Surety in the amount of PLN 350,000 for Fr. Michał Olszewski was donated by a priest from the Congregation of the Priests of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in Poland.
The arrest and treatment of Father Olszewski brought uproar among Poles.
Here is what he wrote in his letters from jail:
"The guards received me, and I was instructed that in the event of any movement without their consent, they would use force, including firearms."
“On the way, I had a request to use the toilet at the highway stop."
Instead, "the convoy entered Orlen (gas station) with emergency lights, next to McDonald's and the restaurant. While they were refueling the car, I was taken in handcuffs to the toilet at the station."
To humiliate the detainee even more, "after leaving the toilet, the officers ordered hotdogs for themselves, while I was standing in handcuffs in the middle of the store."
When he asked to buy him something to eat, he was told that they "don't feed." “I ate my first meal after 60 hours, when my lawyer brought me a parcel from my brother to the court.
