Demographic catastrophe in Poland: The lowest number of births since WWII

The latest data from the Central Statistical Office show that the population of Poland at the end of last year fell below 37.5 million people. The number of births in 2024 was the lowest since the end of World War II.

Official data shows that in 2024, approximately 252,000 were registered. live births, i.e. by over 20 thousand less than in the previous year.

"No significant changes that would guarantee stable demographic development should be expected in the near future. The low fertility rate that has persisted for three decades will also have a negative impact on the future number of births due to the decreasing number of women of reproductive age," the Office informs.
