The police chief in the town of Iława, inspector Waldemar Pankowski, with a population of 32,000, announced his retirement. He revealed that this decision was due to the fact that his superior suggested he be transferred to Giżycko, which is 200 km from his current place of work.
Only 200 km, 2.5 hours of driving. It's closer for me to Warsaw or Gdańsk, to be honest. "
He added that "he is not saying goodbye to the banner because there are no words "God, Honor, Homeland". He also emphasized that, in his opinion, "the law does not apply in Poland."
Pankowski also revealed many irregularities occurring in the Polish police. also added the following quote from George Orwell: "In times of universal falsehood, telling the truth is a revolutionary act."
He added that the provincial commander "did not consider his life situation, that he has a family, he just made an ad hoc decision. It's obvious that this is an offer I couldn't accept."
In his statement, inspector Pankowski also revealed many irregularities occurring in the Polish police. He pointed out that the order may have come from the (national) Chief of Police. That purge must be made by mid January, the black sheep must be eliminated. Personnel movements are starting all over the country. Provincial commanders are proposing units 200 kilometers away to inconvenient commanders."
The commander's statements resonated on the Internet and were often commented on, also in terms of the current situation in the police. For months, there have been signals about staffing and payroll problems, but there are also numerous reports of a bad atmosphere in the service.
Czesław Mroczek, deputy minister at the Ministry of Interior and Administration, reacted: "I hope this is the last manifestation of the politicization in this formation. (...). I am surprised by this commander's political speech. I have heard accusations that changes in the police are taking place too slowly, and that we have people from a previous, political appointment. (...) This commander confirmed these allegations to some extent in his political speech."
