There is no other way to explain what is going on in Poland. It certainly looks like the death of democracy and, I am afraid, the death of the Republic.
Yesterday, I posted a short review of an article in the American Standard that, among other things, reports on a number of high-profile arrests of opposition party politicians.
Today, I have to report the death of a 66-year-old woman, Barbara Skrzypek, who was a witness in one of those cases. She died several days after a 4-hour interrogation without her lawyer's presence. The politicians from the opposition party claim that she died due to the high stress she experienced during and after the interrogation.
The prosecutor's office saw a need to issue a press statement:
In connection with the moving information about the death of Barbara Skrzypek, who was questioned as a witness on Wednesday, March 12, 2025, at the District Prosecutor's Office in Warsaw in connection with the proceedings regarding the so-called "two towers" case, we kindly inform you that the questioning lasted about 4 hours, began at 10:00, during the questioning a break of several minutes was ordered for rest.
The questioning conducted by the reporting prosecutor was attended by the attorneys of the injured party. The witness's attorney was not allowed to participate in the questioning, because the interest of the witness did not require it, and she was not questioned with instructions on the rights arising from, among others, the provisions of Article 183 of the Code of Criminal Procedure.
The questioning took place in a very civilized atmosphere. None of the participants submitted comments, reservations, or requests to correct the minutes.
The District Prosecutor's Office in Warsaw informs that linking the death of a witness to the fact of his interrogation and raising a direct connection between these events will result in the District Prosecutor's Office filing a civil lawsuit to protect the good name of the institution and the case officer. We express our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased and her loved ones for the loss they have suffered.
The open threat from the prosecution office and discrepancies between this account and accounts of those present caused a storm in the media.
Among others, the discrepancies were pointed out by Samuel Pereira, a journalist from Telewizja wPolsce24:
- Prosecutor's Office: Barbara Skrzypek's interrogation lasted 4 hours.
- Attorney Roman Giertych: The interrogation lasted 5 hours.
- Attorney Dubois: 'Skrzypek "did not want to share her knowledge."
- Giertych: 'She had a lot to say in this case.'"
The former Prime Minister Mateusz Morwiecki has no illustrations:
"I can only confirm the assumptions that are appearing on social media, that this whole situation was arranged in such a way as to harm this innocent person, who was cornered by cynical lawyers and in the end this stress affected her health so much that she left and this is a great, great loss.
She was a wonderful person, very warm-hearted, and it was she who, due to the delicacy of her psychological structure, was chosen as a target of attack by the entire regime of Tusk and Bodnar."
