Over 22 million tonnes of crude oil and condensate and 5 billion cubic metres of commercial-grade gas were discovered by the Canadian company Central European Petroleum approximately 6 km from the Polish port Świnoujście.
According to company representatives, the discovery is the largest in Poland's history and one of the largest in Europe in the last decade.
It's worth noting that Germany opposed the work in the Baltic Sea. Till Backhaus, the Minister of the Environment of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, criticized the Polish authorities for issuing the permit. He argued that activities that could have ecological consequences required prior notification of the neighboring country. Polish authorities emphasized that the concession for work in the Baltic Sea was issued in accordance with national regulations.
PN: German press is already speculating about the German share in the profits because part of the deposit may be in German territorial waters.
