Act of sabotage on the Polish railways

According to Polish media reports, there have been several security-related incidents around railways in recent days.

Since November 11, Polish Railways (PKP) security services have been receiving reports of disturbing incidents occurring around railway infrastructure. The matter concerns several locations in eastern Poland.

On Monday morning, Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced via social media that an act of sabotage had occurred on the Warsaw-Lublin route. "An explosive device has destroyed a railway track. Emergency services and the prosecutor's office are working on the scene. Damage has also been found on the same route, closer to Lublin," the head of government wrote on platform X.

National Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz announced that services subordinate to the Ministry of National Defense are working closely to investigate an act of sabotage on the tracks near Garwolin (Masovian Voivodeship). The military will inspect a 120-kilometer section of railway line running to the border in Hrubieszów.

In one incident, a Świnoujście-Rzeszów train carrying nearly 500 passengers was forced to make an emergency stop due to a lack of traction on a section of the line. A metal element attached to the tracks and a communication device, not part of the railway infrastructure, were also found at the scene.

"In this particular situation, we can speak of an act of terrorism. The sabotage is covert, aimed at weakening the enemy's potential, whether it be the army or key state facilities. Here, the goal was different: numerous casualties and publicity," says Colonel Marek Utracki, former deputy head of the Military Counterintelligence Service.
