Poland: Death threats against a journalist, repression against TV Republika

The Press Freedom Monitoring Center of the Polish Journalists Association (CMWP SDP) announced a special conference today dedicated to all the formal and informal actions taken by the ruling authorities against TV Republika and its journalists.

"There are so many lawsuits that we can't keep track of them all, and in addition there are other forms of repression and harassment, attempts at intimidation, physical aggression, and the constant, primitive destruction of the station's image using government-affiliated media outlets," announced Jolanta Hajdasz, head of the CMWP SDP.

The program "In Focus" on Telewizja Republika today revealed shocking recordings. The case concerns Lieutenant Colonel Wojciech B., codenamed "Biszkopt," who is responsible for the security of the most important people in the country, including currently the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Radosław Sikorski.

According to the materials revealed by the station, the SOP officer, in a conversation recorded in February 2024 (after the swearing-in of the coalition government on December 13th), was planning brutal revenge against journalist Piotr Nisztor for investigative publications about him.

The officer planned to beat and torture the victim, douse his body with gasoline, and kill his two dogs.
