Anniversary of Warsaw Ghetto Uprising

Monument for Ghetto heroes in Warsaw
Today is a 76th anniversary of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising (April 19 – May 16, 1943).

Thousands of paper daffodils are expected to be handed out on the streets of the Polish capital in a gesture to honor the heroes of the Uprising.

A range of ceremonies is scheduled for the day to mark 76 years since the outbreak of the World War II-era revolt, in which Jewish fighters took up arms against Poland’s German invaders.

- Insurgents from the Warsaw Ghetto fought not only for their lives, but above all, for the dignity which the Germans wanted to brutally take away from them - Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki wrote on Twitter.
