Germany wanted to bribe the US over Nord Stream 2

Germany offered the US to support the construction of two terminals for the reception of American liquefied natural gas (LNG) in the amount of up to EUR 1 billion in exchange for consent to the completion and commissioning of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline, the German weekly Die Zeit informed on Wednesday.

According to them, at the beginning of last month, the German Minister of Finance, Olaf Scholz, made such a proposal orally to the Secretary of the Treasury, Steven Mnuchin, and then repeated it in writing on August 7. These are the terminals at the ports of Brunsbuettel and Wilhelmshaven, through which gas would be exported from the US to Germany.

Until recently, Germany declared the necessity to complete the pipeline with the participation of vessels from Russia. In response, Washington threatened to extend sanctions to German entities that support Russians - including the company that owns the large port of Sassnitz-Mukran on Rügen.
