Poland: The Treasury takes over the nuclear power plant project

The Treasury and the owners of the PGE EJ1 company, responsible for preparations for the construction of a nuclear power plant, signed a letter of intent regarding the purchase by the state of 100 percent of shares in the company by the end of 2020.

"The energy sector is currently at the stage of deep transformation and such large investment in a nuclear project exceeds the financial capabilities of energy companies," - said PGE President Wojciech Dąbrowski.

According to the government's plans, new nuclear units are to be commissioned every two years from 2033. There will be six of them in total in two locations, the total power will be 6-9 GW.
