Russia is strengthening its reconnaissance troops on the border with Poland

Russia's land forces in the Kaliningrad Oblast, a region on the border with Poland, are being reinforced with long-range scouts, Izvestia reported on Wednesday. The reconnaissance company will be part of the 18th mechanized division currently being formed in the region.

Soldiers of this formation "can gather information far behind enemy lines, penetrating there with helicopters and using parachutes.

The 18th mechanized division is being established in the Kaliningrad Oblast - a region where Russia has been systematically strengthening its armed forces - from the turn of 2019 and 2020. At the end of 2020, it was announced that the new formation would appear in 2021 and become part of the 11th Army Corps of Land Forces and Coastal Protection of the Baltic Fleet.
