The CJEU wants financial penalties for Poland, 500,000 EURO a day

The Court's communiqué stated that Vice-President Rosario Silva de Lapuerta dismissed Poland's request to repeal the decision of May 21, 2021, regarding the cessation of lignite mining at the Turów mine. The vice president of the CJEU also obliged Poland to pay the European Commission a fine of EUR 500,000 (originally 100,000 EURO) a day, starting from the date of delivery to Poland of the decision until Poland complies with the decision.

Moreover, Vice-President Rosario Silva de Lapuerta dismissed the requests submitted by Poland to refer the case to the Grand Chamber of the Tribunal and order a hearing of the parties. She decided that there was no need to refer the case to the Tribunal.
