Reduction of gas tax. Polish government sends request to EC


 The Polish government has submitted a request to the European Commission to reduce VAT on fuel, informed Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki.

He reminded that the government proposes to reduce VAT on gas from 23 percent down to 8 percent for the period of three months next year, and reduction of VAT on electricity from 23 percent down to 5 percent for this period, the maximum reduction of excise duty on fuels and their exemption from retail sales tax.

Last week, the Sejm adopted the law reducing excise duty on fuels and electricity. According to the amendment, the reduction of the excise duty rate on fuels to the minimum level allowed in the European Union is to apply from December 20, 2021, to May 20, 2022. From January 1, 2022 to May 31, 2022, fuels will be exempt from the retail sales tax.
