Warsaw takes over building illegally occupied by the Russian embassy

On Saturday, the authorities took over a building illegally occupied by the Russian embassy in Warsaw. The takeover took place at the city's request, submitted in consultation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and proceeded smoothly, said the spokesman for the ministry.

The repossession was carried out at the request of the City of Warsaw, submitted in full agreement with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, based on a court judgment granting the Polish state ownership of this building, which has been illegally occupied by the Russian embassy for years. This property had no diplomatic status.

The building was nationalized and handed over to the Soviet Union in 1945. Eight years later, the Embassy's high school for children of Soviet diplomats opened there. The school was temporarily closed after Russia invaded Ukraine.
