Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda announced on Friday that two people suspected of the attack on Russian oppositionist Leonid Volkov, carried out on March 12 in Vilnius, had been detained in Poland. Those detained were Polish citizens.
Volkov is the former chief of staff of Alexei Navalny, the leader of the Russian opposition, who died in February this year. in a penal colony above the Arctic Circle. The man was attacked in Vilnius, where he lives. The attackers smashed the window of Volkov's car, sprayed tear gas into his eyes, and then started hitting him with a hammer.
Volkov himself commented on the arrests:
"I don't know any details yet, but I can say that I have seen how vigorously and persistently the Lithuanian police have been working on this case over the last month and I am very happy that this work has brought results," – he wrote on the X platform. - "We will know more details soon. I can't wait," he added.
