As it was reported yesterday MP Marcin Romanowski who should be protected by his immunity was arrested and handcuffed yesterday. After the interrogation that lasted several hours he was hospitalized has already undergone medical examinations. However, his health status is still unknown.
Romanowski attorney said: "I cannot provide their results, nor can I provide information on the reasons for referral for these tests."
The National Prosecutor's Office claims that "the immunity of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe did not exclude the possibility of arresting and bringing charges against MP Marcin Romanowski. It also does not exclude the possibility of his temporary arrest". The politician's attorney, attorney Bartosz Lewandowski, argues that this interpretation is wrong.
The prosecutor's office explains the need to detain MP Marcin Romanowski with "justified fear of unlawful obstruction of the proceedings" as well as the need for "immediate application of a preventive measure".
The Council of Europe confirms: Without its consent, the arrest of Romanowski - a member of Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe - is not possible. (Oops.)
