Two months after the dramatic flood in Lower Silesia and the Opole region, its effects are still all too visible in many Polish cities. The list includes Kłodzko, Lądek-Zdrój, Stronie Śląskie, and Głuchołazy.
The most dramatic situation is in Kłodzko, once a picturesque town. Its inhabitants have to cope with many problems. Many cannot return to their homes, and no binding decision has been made about their future. Entrepreneurs complain that they have been left to their own devices. Local government officials are throwing up their hands and waiting for support from the government. And help and support are still not forthcoming.
This is disturbing because Marcin Kierwiński, the alleged minister for this matter, was brought from Brussels to allegedly fight the effects of the September flood. He, in turn, explains his party's incompetence in helping flood victims by placing the responsibility on the previous government.
Unfortunately, the lack of help for those in need who are afraid of the coming winter is a problem that should be addressed by those in power as soon as possible. The matter of help is highly questionable because Donald Tusk, who heads the government, has completely different priorities - the primaries in the Civic Coalition.
Since yesterday, he has been struggling with the issue of the survey he organized on his profile on X/Twitter. Regardless of the results, it is disturbing when the country's prime minister is more concerned about clicks on his social media account than real problems faced by part of Polish society.
PN: Apparently, Donald Tusk was too preoccupied calling Donald Trump a Russian agent to notice that one of the reasons the Democratic party lost the elections was the lack of support for the victims of recent historic floods. I don't have enough data to support my suspicion. Still, the region of Lower Silesia may support the opposition party, Law and Justice, like most voters in North Carolina who supported Donald Trump.
