A left leaning politician from Poland 2050, Szymon Hołownia, was planning to inaugurate his presidential campaign at the historic hall in the Gdańsk Shipyard where Solidarity was born.
He arranged that by telling the trade union that as the Marshall of the Sejm (equivalent of Speaker of the House), he wants to meet the citizens of the City of Gdansk. The leadership of the union felt that they were lied to after learning that Hołownia plans to use the meeting for an inauguration of his campaign, so they canceled the deal.
The hall in question, Occupational Health and Safety Hall, is located on the premises of the Gdańsk Shipyard and is associated with the signing of the August Agreements of 1980. It witnessed the birth of "Solidarity."
The chairman of NSZZ "Solidarność" issued a statement:
"I was in disbelief at the media reports regarding the activities that Mr. Szymon Hołownia announced for December 7, which were to take place in the Occupational Health and Safety Hall - Mr. Speaker, this is not what we agreed on. It is true that the Chancellery of the Sejm sent a request to "Solidarity" for the use of the historic Occupational Health and Safety Hall on December 7 this year. The hall was to be the venue for a meeting of Marshal Szymon Hołownia with the inhabitants of Gdańsk combined with the celebration of the anniversary of the introduction of martial law in Poland. The Occupational Health and Safety Hall is rented for various types of meetings, also organized by public entities, so I saw nothing inappropriate in it also becoming a meeting place for the Speaker of the Sejm with citizens," Piotr Duda pointed out. "In this situation, I would like to express my deep disgust at the behavior of Szymon Hołownia, his electoral staff and the Poland 2050 party, and also inform you that I have decided to withdraw consent to rent the hall at this date," said Piotr Duda.
PN: The politicians did not learn anything in the last two months. The presidential campaigns should not be based on shameful lies.
