Karol Nawrocki, a citizen candidate (or simply independent) for president supported by the Law and Justice party, supported Poland's unilateral termination of the migration pact during his visit to the border with Belarus. According to Nawrocki, Poles should express their opinion on migration in a referendum.
Karol Nawrocki organized a press conference at the section of the wall built on the border in 2022. The section is currently being modernized.
The candidate said that citizen security and national and military security will be among the priorities of his election program, which he will present in January or February.
As a citizen candidate for the President of the Republic of Poland and the future President of the Republic of Poland, I guarantee you that I favor unilateral termination of the migration pact. And on issues as important as our security, such as the issue of illegal migration to the Polish state, we are all waiting for a national, referendum on the issue of illegal migration to take place - said Karol Nawrocki
The EU migration pact was finally approved by member states on May 14, 2024, despite opposition from Poland, Slovakia, and Hungary. Implementation of the agreement is mandatory for all EU member states.
