PM Tusk wants to question the verdicts - in his own case too?

Today, the next court day of the lawsuit brought by Prime Minister Donald Tusk against "Gazeta Polska" (GP) and its editor-in-chief - Tomasz Sakiewicz - is taking place before the District Court in Warsaw.

The head of "GP" decided to raise the issue of the resolution adopted yesterday by the government. "A judgment will be announced that may not satisfy one of the parties. But, one of the parties has been given the opportunity to overturn the judgment. Isn't it worth asking the Constitutional Tribunal what the legal status is?" - pointed out Sakiewicz signaling the risk posed by Wednesday's government resolution.

The court case is about the cover of the weekly from July 20, 2022, where the PM due to clever trick with light and shadows looks like Adolf Hitler. The GP claims it was a satire.

At the beginning of the hearing, the editor-in-chief of "Gazeta Polska" submitted a formal request:

"Yesterday, Donald Tusk's government adopted a resolution that only those processes approved by the government will count. If the government does not like some result of the process, it will decide that it should not be recognized. And since this case specifically concerns Mr. Donald Tusk, I would like to be sure that the verdict, whether Donald Tusk likes it or not, will matter. I would like to find out this both from the high court and from the attorney representing Donald Tusk. The government's resolution cannot be ignored - he pointed out."

Judge Rafał Wagner replied with a question: “should I take this as an attempt to exclude me from this process?”

- "NO. I'd like to make sure there's a level playing field here. If one side can exclude the validity of the judgment and the other cannot, it means that the legal situation is not equal" - replied Sakiewicz.

PN: What is lately happening in Poland can only be characterized as a tragi-comic and mostly due PM Tusk's doing.
