Two prominent politicians from the governing party wanted to help their party colleague, Rafał Trzaskowski, by attributing the authorship of old Polish Christmas carols to members of his family. They tried to capitalize on the international success of the children's choir Janosik's Little Army.
The scale of embarrassment is pictured in this post on X:
Is it true that Rafał Trzaskowski's uncle wrote the music for the carols sung by Janosik's Mała Armia?
- In essence, it's true. But not an uncle but his mother. Not Christmas carols, but denunciations. And not for Janosik's Little Army, but for the Security Service.
The conservative portal reminded its readers that in 2018, "Gazeta Polska" revealed that Trzaskowski's mother was a secret informer of the communist Security Service. The denunciations also included his father's closest friends. She reported to the security services about contacts with US diplomats of musicians and people involved in jazz - Jerzy Matuszkiewicz, Leopold Tyrmand, and Roman Waschka.
Members of Trzaskowski's family were connected to the communist-era Security Service, the Polish People's Army, while other relatives operated at high levels of the Polish United Workers' Party. Rafał Trzaskowski did not reveal those connections with communism the first time he ran for the presidency.
He most likely would prefer not to remind voters of those facts.
