In an interview with "Gość Niedzielny," President Karol Nawrocki emphasized that the ruling party is not focusing on solving the problems of Polish citizens.
"When I read all the analyses, I see that Poles are dissatisfied with the government and the prime minister. Instead of real work, we have constant 'accountability exercises' – ones that are primarily intended to distract public opinion from real problems."
"They are essentially paralyzing everything. We are seeing the paralysis of the healthcare system, a dramatic budget deficit, and yet we are still being distracted by spectacles funded by the government. Meanwhile, people – to use a classic phrase – want bread."
"I think one of the significant opportunities for Poland in 2026 is participation in the G20 summit, to which we have been invited by President Donald Trump. I also hope that this year the current governing coalition will not manage to further devastate public finances," - said the president.
The president commented on the amendment to the education law, which he decided to veto. The Ministry of Education, under the leadership of Barbara Nowacka, still plans to implement these changes despite the veto.
"I don't know how far Minister Nowacka will go in circumventing the legal order in Poland, but I, as President, vetoed this law, listening to the voices of parents and teachers. A very large meeting was held at the Presidential Palace with representatives from several dozen educational organizations. I listened to the opinions of employee representatives, school principals, and people representing various communities and different sides of the political spectrum. I also very carefully analyzed this law myself and I know that it is not ready for implementation. No pilot programs were foreseen, and children would be used as tools in the chaos of these changes. I'm talking about the methodology now, but the biggest threat is the direction of the minister's actions. I became President to prevent the ideologization of Polish schools, to prevent changes to curricula in this way, and to prevent the centralization of decision-making in the field of education." — said the head of state.
The European Court of Justice recently ruled that Poland must recognize same-sex marriages concluded in another EU member state.
"According to the Polish constitution, marriage is a union between a woman and a man. The guardian of the constitution has the primary duty to clearly and loudly tell the European Union, the European Commission, the President of the European Court of Justice, and the entire public that the constitution is the supreme law, the fundamental law that is binding on everyone in Poland. In none of the treaties that Poland acceded to when joining the European Union did we renounce our own constitution." — the president emphasized.
