Poland postpones presidential vote

Today, May 7th, the Polish parliament, the Sejm, rejected the Senate's veto on the organization of presidential elections. This means that the deputies adopted the act on correspondence voting. However, elections will not take place this Sunday.

Yesterday evening, the United Right coalition members, "Law and Justice" (PiS) and the junior partner "Agreement", issued a statement on postponing the vote. It stated that "After May 10, 2020, and the Supreme Court's expected annulment of elections, given that they were not held, the Marshal of the Sejm will announce new presidential elections as soon as possible."

EU Justice Commissioner Didier Reynders announced that despite postponing the date of the presidential election, the European Commission will continue to look at preparations for carrying them out in the future.
