Poland: entire country in "red zone", president infected

 Poland has 13,628 new and confirmed cases of coronavirus infection, the Ministry of Health announced today. A total of 179 people died in the last 24 hours.

For 19,132 hospital beds designed for COVID-19 patients, 11,496 were occupied on Saturday, 708 more than on Friday.

911 patients are connected to the ventilators, 60 more than the day before. Since Friday, the number of beds for COVID-19 patients has increased by 700, and ventilators by 41. There are 478,761 people in quarantine, (almost 80,000 more than on Friday). Sanitary and epidemiological supervision covered 57,802 people. Since the beginning of the epidemic, 109,344 who were confirmed to be infected have recovered. 4,252 were added the last 24 hours.

President Andrzej Duda had a test for the presence of coronavirus, the result turned out to be positive, the president feels good - said Błażej Spychalski, Secretary of State in the Chancellery of the President of the Republic of Poland.

According to unofficial media reports, the president contracted the coronavirus from one of the State Protection Service officers.

On Friday, the president paid a visit to the National Stadium in Warsaw, where a temporary hospital for COVID-19 patients is being built. He also decorated a tennis player, Iga Świątek, for sports achievements and promotion of the country. Iga won French Open two weeks ago, she is now under quarantine.

Deputy Minister of Health, Waldemar Kraska, said that in his opinion, the construction of the hospital is not threatened. - Everyone was wearing masks, kept their distance, so the risk of infection was minimal. But the people who have had contact with the president will certainly have tests, because we really want this construction to be completed as soon as possible.
