PM Morawiecki spoke with Merkel, he confirmed his readiness to veto the new EU budget

"I have confirmed to German Chancellor, our readiness to veto the new budget, if we do not find a solution that is good for the entire European Union, and not only for some of its members," - informed Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki after talking to German Chancellor Angela Merkel.

The issue of the next long-term EU budget is currently the most important task facing the German presidency of the European Union. This topic was the most important of the European issues discussed during my conversation today with Chancellor Angela Merkel - the Prime Minister wrote on Facebook.

The meeting was held in a good atmosphere, respecting the diversity of our positions. Our joint success, which ended with the budget negotiations in July, must now be translated into appropriate legal provisions, which will then be approved by all EU countries. At the beginning of the conversation, I emphasized once again that we would defend the sovereign right of European states to implement changes and reforms, as well as the letter and spirit of the treaties, which constitute primary law and supersede any other legal acts and secondary mechanisms contained in the current proposals of the European institutions. This statement is the foundation of our position and the starting point for further talks, - stressed the Prime Minister.

Today, I told Madam Chancellor that Poland expects further work to find a solution as soon as possible that would guarantee the rights of all Member States and respect treaty procedures. I also asked for an in-depth analysis of our arguments, not only from the point of view of the dispute that is currently underway, but also of the coherence and future vision of Europe. I also reaffirmed our readiness to veto the new budget if we do not find a solution that is good for the EU as a whole, not just some of its members, - he added.
