Poland's PKN Orlen has signed a cooperation agreement on small and micro-nuclear reactors


 PKN Orlen (Orlen) and chemical company, Synthos, have signed a framework agreement for the implementation of small and micro-nuclear reactor technology, they plan to establish a special joint venture company - announced today the CEO of Orlen, Daniel Obajtek.

"We have signed a framework agreement...regarding the implementation of zero-emission technology, nuclear technology, small and micro-nuclear reactors," Obajtek told a news conference.

"The agreement provides that within three months we will develop detailed terms of our cooperation," he added. 

Although SMRs (Small Modular Reactors) are controversial, in fact, they have been used in industry for many years, mainly in the military industry. This technology has been used for many years by Canada, the United States, and Great Britain, and recently also by the Czech Republic and Romania. A new company, Orlen-Synthos Green Energy, will soon begin work on its development in Poland.
