Poland will put its weight behind the Western Balkan countries' wish to join EU

According to TheFirstNew/PAP, Poland will put its weight behind the Western Balkan countries' ambitions to join the European Union, Poland's foreign minister Zbigniew Rau said on Thursday at the beginning of a visit to North Macedonia.

Warsaw has been an enthusiastic supporter of bringing the countries of the region into the EU fold to ensure security and counter Russian influence.

"Poland decidedly supports, and will continue to support, the Western Balkans' European ambitions," Mr. Rau said.

Rau said that Visegrad Group foreign ministers discussed EU expansion in the region at last Monday's meeting in Poland and recent talks in Warsaw with the foreign ministers of Serbia and North Macedonia.

In North Macedonia, Rau will attend the Prespa Forum for Dialogue, devoted to the situation in the Western Balkan region.
