Russia: major mobilization of reservists in September. Why?

 As reported by local media, including Nezavisimaya Gazeta, military recruitment offices of the Russian Federation have begun to call up "human mobilization reserves." Russian commentators say this is a scale unprecedented since the collapse of the USSR.

From the mobilized reservists, contingents of reserve army combat personnel are to be formed later this month. In total, Russia plans to mobilize at least 50,000 people.

Particularly noteworthy is the rapid pace of this mobilization, which will only take a month, which also applies to many specialist positions. Russian commentators compare this to World War II standards and speculate on possible reasons for such actions. According to the announcements of the Russian authorities, the main goal of the appointed reservists is to "protect and defend particularly important military and state facilities, maintain public order and eliminate the consequences of natural disasters".
