Warsaw Uprising Calendar: August 17 - first broadcast from the insurgent Warsaw that could be heard in London


 Another day of fierce fighting in the Old Town. The Germans continue shelling the district successfully destroying tenement houses. They were set on fire, among others St. Jana church and the Town Hall at Teatralny Plaza.

In the afternoon, the Germans storm the positions of the units deployed in Muranów. The insurgents repel the enemy. Then the Germans try to attack the barricade in Leszno, using women as human shields. 

Polish Radio broadcast the first broadcast from the insurgent Warsaw, audible in London.
