Canadian, Bruce Liu, wins Chopin competition


 Bruce (Xiaoyu) Liu from Canada took first place in the 18th International Piano Competition. Fryderyk Chopin, the director of the Fryderyk Chopin Institute, Artur Szklener, announced on Wednesday night. 

Second place in the Chopin Competition was taken by Alexander Gadjiev representing Italy and Slovenia, and Kyohei Sorita from Japan. The winner of the third place is Martin Garcia Garcia from Spain, the fourth place was awarded to the Japanese Aimi Kobayashi and the Pole Jakub Kuszlik. The fifth place was taken by Leonora Armellini from Italy, and the sixth place was taken by JJ Jun Li Bui from Canada.

"Being able to play Chopin in Warsaw is one of the best things you can imagine, so I'm truly honoured for this award, and for this jury's trust and for all the warmth I have received in recent days," said Mr. Liu.

The winner of the competition, Bruce (Xiaoyu) Liu, will receive 40,000 Euro from the President of the Republic of Poland, 500,000 Yen from the President of the City of Hamamatsu, and 5,000 Euro from the National Philharmonic for the best performance of the concert.
