Dramatic situation of Poles in Belarus. Intimidation, searches, interrogations and arrests

The situation of Poles living in Belarus is very difficult. The Lukashenka regime constantly represses them using intimidation, searches, interrogations, and arrests. Activists, journalists, veterans, teachers, students, and their parents are called to questioning.

The government's plenipotentiary for the Polish community and Poles abroad, Jan Dziedziczak, assessed that the life of Poles in Belarus has never been easy, but "in the last year we noticed that the regime of Alyaksandr Lukashenka is taking increasingly harsh measures."

When asked about the number of Poles imprisoned by the Lukashenka regime, he said that he only had estimates, which, however, are secret to protect the sources.

- The arrests concern a significant number of Poles. Literally, everyone is at risk of arrest - not only the leaders of local communities or Polish organizations - Dziedziczak noted.
