Summit of European conservative and right-wing parties

On Saturday, an international summit of European conservative and right-wing parties took place in the Spanish capital. The best review of the event is an article in the Sueddeutsche Zeitung, a very liberal newspaper and hostile toward Poland, where a correspondent from Madrid writes that the final declaration of these parties included an unequivocal condemnation of Russian aggression and actions in Ukraine.

In other words, the conservative parties often accused by the left of sympathy towards Russia showed that it is not so.

It was natural for conservative or right-wing parties to focus on issues of national sovereignty, the competencies of nation-states, or the constitution, so it is good that such politicians meet, build a community, and build understanding. For the Spanish VOX, what is happening on the eastern border of the EU is a very distant matter. They have never historically experienced the Russian threat, yet they signed the final declaration, understanding the Polish point of view.

"We have shown that there is a different future for Europe, that there is a future based on sovereign states, not on any centralized structure that takes away powers from states," - said Prime Minister Morawiecki after the summit in Madrid.

Other topics that were raised by the participants were, among others, the fight against depopulation, the defense of energy sovereignty of European countries, and defense cooperation.
