Polish daily, "Nasz Dziennik" (Our Daily), reports that Brussels wants to deprive Member States of the right to decide on the functioning of forests. It is planned to amend the treaties, which will transfer forestry from national to common EU competencies.
Unlike most European countries, Polish forests represent one-third of Polish territory.
"The European Parliament wants to take over Poland's exclusive competencies in forestry management. This is not only contrary to the treaties, but it also means the collapse of the Polish wood industry and a huge increase in wood prices," - warns Edward Siarka, from the Ministry of Climate and Environment.
