Another 16 Infected with Legionnaires' Disease in Region Neighboring Ukraine

Another 16 people were hospitalized with confirmed the presence of Legionella bacteria in a strategic region on the Ukrainian border, Jaromir Ślączka, director of the region's Sanitary and Epidemiological Station in Rzeszów, announced on Sunday. 143 people are already infected with Legionnaires' disease.

The largest number of people infected with the bacterium live in Rzeszów - 96 patients and another 31 live in Rzeszów county. In addition, four infections were revealed in the inhabitants of the Dębica county, three in the Ropczycko-Sędziszów county, two in Łańcut and one in the following counties: Jasielsk, Przeworsk, Przemyśl, Kolbuszów, Niżańskie, Stalowowolski and in Opolski.

So far, eight people with confirmed legionella infection and comorbidities have died.

According to the CDC, about 1 out of every 10 people who get sick with Legionnaires' disease will die due to complications from their illness.
