Niezalezna(.)pl: This year's Polish Army Day was celebrated in Warsaw with a great parade. In the background there was Russian aggression against neighboring Ukraine – reports Deutsche Presse-Agentur (DPA) on Tuesday and emphasizes that the military parade took place on a symbolic day for Poland, commemorating the victory over the Soviet invader during the Battle of Warsaw in 1920.
During Tuesday's parade, two thousand soldiers marched through the center of the capital, and 200 units of military technology were presented. During the air show, almost a hundred planes and helicopters flew over the city, DPA reported.
Poland, as a country belonging to the EU and NATO, is not only one of the largest political and military supporters of Ukraine, but also arms itself against the threat posed by Russia on a large scale. Anxiety in Poland is also growing due to the activities of Russian mercenaries of the Wagner group in neighboring Belarus – commented DPA, emphasizing that over the next few years the Polish army will almost double its strength.
According to Warsaw's plans, there should be 300,000 of them, including internal security.
Poland has signed billion-dollar agreements with the United States and South Korea regarding the modernization of the army and air force. Last summer, Warsaw placed a large order with South Korea for 48 FA-50 combat aircraft, 48 K9 self-propelled howitzers and 180 K2 main battle tanks, 24 of which have already been delivered. In addition, Poland purchased a total of 366 American Abrams tanks, of which 250 are the latest versions and 116 - used.
