Niezalezna(.)pl: On October 12, 2023, 3 days before the elections in Poland, the European Parliament is scheduled to vote on the Report on the Amendment of the EU Treaties.
The Report proposes a total of nearly 270 changes to the Treaty of the European Union and the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union.
"The report has, in accordance with Art. 48 TEU, lalaunched the procedure for amending the EU Treaties by possibly convening a Convention and then an Intergovernmental Conference on amending the EU Treaties" – writes MEP Saryusz-Wolski.
As he enumerates, the proposed changes include, among others: radical centralization of the EU and its de facto transformation into a "superstate that escapes democratic control". This will result in a weakening of the competences and importance of the member states. The proposals also include the elimination of the principle of unanimity in voting in 65 areas and a "mass transfer of competences from the level of member states to the level of the European Union."
