Tusk is threatening the President of the National Bank with the State Tribunal

Niezalezna(.)pl: The Civic Coalition Chairman Donald Tusk announced on Friday, that his party will not do anything that would disturb the stability or undermine the reputation of the Polish state in Europe or the World. In turn, the Speaker of the Sejm, Szymon Hołownia, said that such a motion should be seriously considered. They both pointed out that the political decision regarding the Court of Justice for the President of the National Bank (NBP) Adam Glapiński had still not been made.

"If the government wanted to change the president of the NBP every time after the elections, they would bring him before the State Tribunal," said the head of the Polish government, Mateusz Morawiecki. Therefore he wondered - "how could the principle of NBP's independence from the influence of politicians be implemented?"

Today, the First Vice-President of the NBP, Marta Kightley, informed the Financial Times that if the President of the NBP is suspended in connection with his possible prosecution before the State Tribunal, the Polish central bank will appeal in this case to the Court of Justice of the EU regarding the violation of EU treaties.

Also today, members of the NBP management board Marta Kightley, Adam Lipiński, Marta Gajęcka, Piotr Pogonowski, Rafał Sura and Paweł Szałamacha sent an open letter to the Speaker of the Sejm, Szymon Hołownia. They assessed that bringing the President of the NBP before the State Tribunal would be a punishment for the exemplary performance of his duties.
