Polish farmers march on parliament building

Farmers demonstrating today in Warsaw began to reach the vicinity of the seat of the Sejm of the Republic of Poland. The Marshal of the Sejm announced a meeting with a delegation of farmers today.

Protesters are demanding an end to the Green Deal policy and a halt to the import of agricultural products from Ukraine.

When Poland joined the EU, we were told to specialize and professionalize. We did this, we expanded the acreage of farms, and today, it looks like we are dealing with a huge reset. To put it bluntly, the European Union subsidizes the no-production - said Jacek Słoma, a farmer from Podlasie, to the reporters from the radio station RMF-FM.

He also pointed out that farmers in Poland produce the highest quality food, while at the same time the country receives imports from outside the EU, which do not have to meet standards.

According to the editor-in-chief of "Gazeta Polska" (Polish Gazette), Tomasz Sakiewicz, Polish agriculture seems to be the biggest victim of top-down EU regulations. He drew attention to the way decisions are made at the EU.

"The decisions that have been made are in practice the liquidation of agriculture. They were not consulted at all socially or politically. Decisions can not be made this way - today farmers, tomorrow miners, the day after tomorrow, steel workers? Further industries may be liquidated in this way."
