Niezalezna(.)pl: European Commission withdraws a project to limit the use of pesticides in agriculture in the EU. This was announced by the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, on Tuesday during a debate in the European Parliament. This is a reaction to the farmers' protests that are currently sweeping through EU countries.
As von der Leyen said in Strasbourg, the EC proposed a draft of new regulations for "the noble purpose of reducing the risk posed by chemical plant protection products."
“But the proposal (…) became a symbol of polarization. It was rejected by the European Parliament. There is no progress on it in the Council either. I will therefore propose to the College (European Commission) to withdraw this proposal." – she informed.
“The topic, of course, remains. To move forward, a broader dialogue and a different approach are needed. On this basis, the Commission could present a new, much more mature project, created with the involvement of interested parties."
Polonia News: It seems that the EC picked the most controversial project to back out from to show that the "unwashed" farmers only care for themselves and not for our health.
It will be interesting to watch their next step.
