Donald Tusk's government wants to send the former Minister of National Defense, Bogdan Klich, to Washington as the new Polish ambassador to the USA. He would replace Marek Magierowski, who was offered a post in Argentina.
However, the President of Polish Republic, Andrzej Duda, who has a final say, declared that he will never accept Klich as as the ambassador.
"Mr. Radosław Sikorski and Mr. Donald Tusk want to send as the Polish ambassador to the USA a man who was the Minister of National Defense when the President of the Republic of Poland died in a plane crash - in a military plane, piloted by military pilots, along with some of the most important people in the country. [...] I will never agree to this. As long as I am president, for these (remaining) 14 months, I will never sign this ambassadorial nomination. I will not discredit Poland" - said the president.
Bogdan Klich, a long-time activist of the Civic Platform, in 2007-2011was the Minister of National Defense. He was widely criticized for poor work organization in the ministry, lack of vision and a decline in purchases for the army.
In 2009, Klich rejected the project to modernize the Polish Armed Forces.
In 2011, he tried to persuade the Russians to hold bilateral meetings and to hold joint consultations on the strategy of reforming the armed forces and purchasing Russian weapons.
