The debate on the rule of law in the EU is not going well

During the debate on the rule of law in the EU, Polish MEP addressed Didier Reynders, the Commissioner for Justice: "Commissioner, I will ask you directly, because I have little time: are you deaf and blind? Do your people who prepared this report not know and do not see what is happening in my country?"

In its report on the rule of law in Poland, the European Commission noted alleged significant progress in our country, for example in ensuring the independence of the prosecutor's office.

"I understand that you have certain political views, that the European Commission has certain political views, that the conservative government that I represented was the subject of constant attacks for political reasons, but for half a year now another government has been in power. A government that is actually introducing a grim, authoritarian dictatorship in our country. And this is happening with your silence, significant silence."

"Don't you see what's happening in Poland right now? Haven't you heard that in the 21st century, the problem of political prisoners is coming back to an EU member state? The problem of torture is coming back" — the MEP stated.

"Mr. Commissioner, your silence on these matters means that you are taking political and moral responsibility for all the evil that is happening at the moment in my country, in Poland," - he concluded.
