The European Commission announced arms projects that will receive funding for the development of production and research and development capacity under the EDIRPA program. Poland has submitted six defense sector products to the program, including the Piorun Man-Portable Anti-Aircraft Missile Systems (PPZR), which is receiving favorable reviews all over the world. Despite this, none of the Polish proposals were among the program beneficiaries. Billions from EC funds will flow to defense sectors, including: France and Germany.
The program, initiated last year aims to support member states in meeting key defense needs, including air defense, ammunition procurement and combat platforms, especially those that have escalated as a result of Russia's aggression against Ukraine. On Thursday, the Commission approved funding for five cross-border projects aimed at supporting more coordinated and efficient defense procurement in EU Member States. Each of the five selected projects will receive EUR 60 million, making a total amount of EUR 300 million.
It is the lack of funding for Piorun that is the most controversial. The weapon has proven to be excellent during the ongoing war in Ukraine and is receiving favorable reviews all over the world. Many allied countries decided to order this weapon. This is done by the Baltic countries, Norway, and even the United States. This confirms how good this equipment is at neutralizing enemy targets. There is probably no better recommendation.
