The alarm in this matter was raised by the telecommunications company Global Connect, as the failure deprived approximately 6,000 people of Internet access.
It is not yet known how the underground cable was damaged. – Usually the cause of damage is that the excavator digs into the ground and accidentally hits the cable – explained Niklas Ekström, spokesman for Global Connect.
"In this case, such accidental damage would require two excavators digging into the ground at the same time in places several or even several dozen kilometers away," notes the Wyborcza.biz website.
Swedish Minister of Civil Defense Carl-Oskar Bohlin said in a statement that Finnish police "due to the circumstances" suspect sabotage.
