On Friday, December 13, the coalition passed the "incidental" bill. According to the new regulations on the validity of the president's election in 2025, the 15 judges with the most seniority in the Supreme Court are to adjudicate. Supreme Court judge Kamil Zaradkiewicz published an online list of judges who met this criterion. Many of them were Polish United Workers' Party members, and almost all started their judicial careers in the Polish People's Republic.
The "citizen" (or independent) presidential candidate Karol Nawrocki said: "It is terrifying that the game's rules are changed four months before the elections."
"This shows an alarming tendency in the Polish justice system; it only deepens further chaos in the justice system. This indication especially violates the separation of powers in some deeper legal sense because the legislative power appoints specific judges to decide a specific case. Well, that does not "sound like a democratic country," – he assessed.
