Polish PM cancels museum dedicated to Polish Pope JPII

In the last few weeks, Prime Minister Donald Tusk repeatedly assured us that he is as good a Catholic as it gets. Apparently, it's only temporary because of the upcoming presidential elections, and he wants his, quite literally, candidate to win.

The truth about him is not as rosy, and it took an Italian daily, „La Verità,” to point it out.

In its Saturday edition (01/02/25), the right-wing daily published an article by Fabrizio Cannone titled: "Pole Tusk canceled Wojtyła: No for the John Paul II museum." The subtitle is also telling: "Anticlerical Prime Minister boycotts the work: 'It contributes to divisions.' And it gives an impetus to secularization.”

The matter concerns the John Paul II museum in Toruń, founded on the basis of an agreement concluded in 2018 by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage and the Lux Veritatis Foundation, owned by Father Tadeusz Rydzyk. A modern museum building was built, and the expenditure amounted to PLN 180 million from the ministry and PLN 90 million from the foundation. After the change of power, the ministry led by Bartłomiej Sienkiewicz refused to continue financing the investment and to provide an annual subsidy - they simply demanded to terminate the contract.

Saint John Paul II and his message, values and memory as an essential element of identity building seem to be inconvenient for the Prime Minister and his government.
