Poland vs. European Union

While the whole world is fighting with a pandemic Poland has to fight with the EU as well.

The leadership of the European People's Party, headed by a former President of the European Council, Donald Tusk, today called on the ruling party in Poland "to abide by the constitution regarding the new date of presidential elections and the election of the president of the Supreme Court."

This is another appeal that has recently appeared in the European Parliament regarding the situation in Poland. Earlier, MEPs from various political groups expressed concern over the government's desire to hold the presidential election on 10 May. Now they added the issue of the election of the first president of the Supreme Court.

In a mean while Deputy Minister of Justice Marcin Romanowski announced that Poland may withdraw from the Istanbul Convention. - "The convention, and we have always said so, is unacceptable to us in its ideological layer. It is contrary to the Polish constitutional order, where the source of rights and freedoms is human dignity, it is contrary to our system of values, which we represent and which is based on the Christian heritage. The convention in its ideological layer is a manifesto of feminist movements, with a Marxist, leftist character and falsely indicates the sources of violence" - said Romanowski.

Today the European Commission has started proceedings against the Polish government for the lack of provisions on the basis of which the authorities could be taken to courts for poor air quality.
