Poland ready to veto the European Union budget

The head of the Polish government, Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, sent a letter on the matter of budget to all leaders of the European Union. It is about the mechanism of linking the payment of EU funds with the observance of "the rule of law".

"Poland cannot accept such a version of the conditionality mechanism related to the EU budget, which leads to the primacy of political and arbitrary criteria over the substantive evaluation" - Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said today.

"The effect of such an approach will be such a situation that discretion in the case of this mechanism will pose serious threats to the rule of law in the EU" - points out the PM.

"The government's strategy will be verified in relation to the reactions of individual countries" - said the head of the President's National Security Bureau, Paweł Soloch, during the radio interview. He stressed that sovereignty is a key issue.

He also pointed out that "the essence of the rule of law has begun to be defined in an extremely broad way, because it concerns not only the issue of judicial reform in Poland, but also the rights of the sexual minority, the immigration policy, and the environment".
