EU leaders rebuked Merkel and Macron. Poland and the Baltics lead the effort

Politico.eu: European Union leaders took a tough stance on Russia last night after Poland and the Baltic states fiercely opposed Germany and France and torpedoed their proposal to bring about a summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The final result was remarkably humbling, if not utterly humiliating, for German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Emmanuel Macron, who normally exert the greatest sway in discussions around the European Council table, - writes Politico.

Merkel and Macron did not provide any justification for pushing their idea of a "softer" approach to Putin, and their unexpected move irritated other leaders, especially PM Morawiecki, who argued there was no reason to ease diplomatic pressure on Moscow.
