Polish government is asking the president to declare a state of emergency

The Council of Ministers asked the president to declare a state of emergency for 30 days in the border zone of parts of the Lubelskie Voivodeship and part of the Podlaskie Voivodeship, the Prime Minister said during a press conference on Tuesday.

- We are responsible for the security of Polish citizens, tightness of borders, preventing illegal immigration and attempts to destabilize the situation in Poland. The situation on the border is crisis and tense - said PM Morawiecki during today's press conference.

In turn, the Minister of Internal Affairs and Administration Mariusz Kamiński announced that the state of emergency would apply to 115 towns in the Podlaskie Voivodeship and 68 towns in the Lubelskie Voivodeship. - If the president decides that the circumstances of introducing the state of emergency are justified and signs, the restrictions will apply immediately - he announced.

- I want to reassure the inhabitants of border towns. The restrictions will not interfere in the least with your professional life, with the ability to freely carry out activities, for example agricultural, in these areas - emphasized Kamiński.

As Maciej Wąsik, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Interior and Administration informed in an interview with the Polish Radio24, every day 100-250 people try to cross from Belarus to the Polish side, so all technical methods should be used to protect the border. On Wednesday, August 25, the army began the construction of a three-meter fence on the Polish-Belarusian border in the region of Zubrzyca Wielka in the province of Podlasie. Ultimately, it is to be about 180 km long.

He added that the government is also securing money to build technical devices along the Belarusian border that will make it a "super tight border". He also noted that the Polish eastern border is already considered by the EU as the tightest land border of the EU. "This is a very well guarded border. In my opinion, the Border Guard is in control of what is happening on this border, even without a fence. It will be even better with the fence," he said.
